The Annual Cooper Union Art Sale and Silent Auction was first conceived in the fall of 2003 as a gesture from the art students to the School of Art. The Art Student Council was frustrated by the art school’s budget cutbacks, and consequently began brainstorming ideas to demonstrate a desire for better financial planning. For the past two years the Art Sale and Auction have been profitable to the School of Art as well as to its students, and have provided the opportunity to showcase student artwork to the public.

This event gives students an opportunity to learn the process of curating and producing a group exhibition, advertising and promoting their work, as well as the difficulties of assigning monetary value to one’s own creations.
Since its start, the Student Art Sale and Auction have been developed and modified with each group of students involved in its production. New to the event this year are a raffle, music, and a chance to meet some of the artists. |
